GHD Foundation Supports Disaster Relief FY23 - 24

October 3, 2024

The GHD Foundation supports medium to long-term disaster relief efforts. Through giving initiatives, the Foundation has provided grants to organisations that focus on proactive resiliency planning and sustained assistance, ensuring that communities receive the help they need long after the initial first responders have departed. Below are some of the key programmes and organisations supported by the GHD Foundation in recent disaster relief efforts.

RedR: Global Disaster Relief Support

RedR Australia provides skilled personnel to support disaster relief efforts worldwide. The GHD Foundation's grant to RedR Australia ensures that communities around the world receive the expertise and aid they need to recover effectively. This global support extends the impact of the GHD Foundation's disaster relief efforts beyond national borders.

Habitat for Humanity International: Disaster Response

Habitat for Humanity International focuses on rebuilding homes and communities after natural disasters. The GHD Foundation's grant supports their Disaster Response initiative, which helps families recover by providing safe and secure housing. While Habitat is not a first responder, their efforts are crucial in the recovery phase, enabling affected communities to rebuild sustainably.

Feeding America: Disaster Response

Feeding America is a U.S. organisation that provides essential food assistance to communities affected by natural disasters across the United States. The GHD Foundation's grant supports Feeding America's Disaster Response initiative, ensuring that food supplies reach those in need during and after disasters. This ongoing support helps maintain food security as communities work towards long-term recovery.

Habitat for Humanity New Zealand: Cyclone Gabrielle Recovery

The GHD Foundation has supported Habitat for Humanity New Zealand's efforts in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle. The cyclone left thousands of families without safe shelter, and many homes were irreparably damaged. Habitat New Zealand, with regional offices deeply embedded in the affected communities, works closely with local organisations to assess needs and provide long-term, localised support. The GHD Foundation's support helps ensure that these recovery efforts continue, protecting access to adequate shelter for those impacted by the cyclone.

Philippines Disaster Relief Foundation (PDRF): Cyclone Odette Recovery
The Foundation provided a grant to support PDRF's recovery efforts following Cyclone Odette, including the distribution of livelihood kits for small businesses and capacity development training on financial literacy, disaster risk reduction, community resilience, and boat building.

The GHD Foundation emphasizes the importance of sustained disaster relief, enabling communities to focus on long-term recovery and resilience. By supporting partners who provide essential on-the-ground assistance, the Foundation ensures that recovery efforts continue well after the initial response phase.
