In celebration and reflection this International Women's Day, GHD Foundation proudly shines a light on its partnership with Energy Institute High School (EIHS) in Houston, Texas, a pioneering institution that is dedicated to supporting women's advancement, particularly in the fields of education and the future workforce of the energy sector.
Last year, the GHD Foundation issued a grant to EIHS, fueling a range of initiatives designed to enrich the educational journey of its students. This funding has helped to enhance classroom learning, support the procurement of essential educational resources, and facilitate professional development for teachers. Such endeavors are critical for stimulating intellectual curiosity among students and equipping them with the competencies necessary for success in the ever-evolving energy industry.
One of the most notable achievements of EIHS is the school's success in achieving gender parity within its student body. The 2021-2022 freshman class boasted a 50% female enrollment rate, a milestone that not only reflects the school's commitment to diversity and equality but also underscores the critical importance of investing in women's education.
Jo Metcalfe, GHD Foundation’s Managing Director, says, “By ‘investing in women’ GHD Foundation is not only celebrating the achievements of young women at EIHS, but also lays the groundwork for a more equitable and prosperous future. This accomplishment demonstrates the progress that can be made when resources are directed towards empowering young women in fields where they have been historically underrepresented.”
